Labels for the marine transport of chemicals
The British Standard 5609 (BS 5609) test is used to determine the performance of adhesive labels in maritime situations, including the legibility of safety information after 3 months immersion in salt water and is widely recognised as one of the highest standards for label durability. We are happy to support our customers with material sampling for testing purposes.
The BS 5609 standard consists of four sections:
- Introduction, definitions and a description of general requirements & responsibilities
- Methods and requirements for testing the base material of a label
- Test methods and requirements for testing the label including printing, inks and tapes for durability. Printing, inks and tapes for their effectiveness, legibility,
- Durability, resistance to abrasion and weathering by light, salt spray and sand
- Guidance for shippers and users in the selection and application of labels
Our portfolio includes combinations of adhesives and
face materials and complies with sections 2 and 3 of BS
5609.
