UL-Recognized Label Solutions for Demanding Applications
Since 1990, we have been your expert partner for UL-recognized label solutions. Over decades, we have accumulated profound expertise in specialized substrates, high-performance adhesive systems, and the stringent requirements of permanent product identification.
There is no universal off-the-shelf solution for industrial compliance: substrate, adhesive system, print technology, surface energy, temperature range, and ambient operating conditions must be precisely matched to each specific application.
As part of our FÖRSTER Label Universe, we consolidate under FÖRSTER UL-Labels our comprehensive UL- and CSA-recognized labeling solutions – ranging from fully finished UL labels and UL-recognized blank printing materials to highly specialized cable flag constructions.
A cornerstone of our UL expertise is our official accreditation as a UL Authorized Label Supplier.
Under UL File No. LP2035 / LP2409, we are officially listed in the UL Authorized Label Suppliers Program (PGAA).
This official authorization has been held continuously since 1990, forming the foundation of our extensive experience in manufacturing UL-recognized labels and marking systems.
For our industrial clients, this means: fully compliant manufacturing processes, verified component traceability, and trouble-free acceptance during UL factory inspections.
Our UL-recognized marking systems are tested and certified according to the central North American standards:
UL 969 (Standard for Marking and Labeling Systems) and CSA C22.2 No. 0.15 (Adhesive Labels).
These standards define strict testing criteria for permanent adhesion, legibility, and environmental durability under mechanical, thermal, and chemical stress on a wide variety of industrial application surfaces.
As a UL Authorized Label Supplier, we manufacture UL-recognized labels and marking systems in strict accordance with the underlying UL certifications.
Depending on the approved design, this includes official UL certification marks, variable batch data, consecutive serial numbers, and mandatory technical rating specifications.
Our UL-recognized systems are deployed according to their specific Conditions of Acceptability (CoA). These govern approved application substrates, temperature ranges (-40 °C to +150 °C), exposure to oils and solvents, and indoor or outdoor deployment.
Implementing the new Enhanced UL Certification Marks and Smart UL Certification Marks involves strict technical requirements.
UL Solutions refers to this modern generation of marks as the Enhanced UL Mark and Smart UL Mark. The smart version features an integrated QR code linking directly to a verified product listing page hosted by UL Solutions for real-time compliance validation.
We produce these marks with absolute geometrical accuracy and high-contrast printing to guarantee reliable optical machine readability.
Not every UL application calls for a fully finished, pre-printed label.
For manufacturing processes where variable data is imprinted on-demand on the client's production line, UL-recognized Printing Materials are available.
In particular, the category PGJI2 / PGJI8 governs these certified printing materials, providing matched systems of label facestock, adhesive, and thermal transfer ribbon tested together for permanent legibility.
We do not simply sell label material – we evaluate your entire industrial labeling process:
This ensures marking solutions engineered to perform reliably under real-world industrial operating conditions.
For UL- and CSA-recognized labels, our material portfolio includes sustainable substrates featuring Post-Consumer Recyclate (PCR) alongside conventional film and paper materials.
Our rPET label solutions can contain up to 70% Post-Consumer Recyclate (PCR).
The PCR content is specifically certified and documented for each substrate, enabling industrial manufacturers to meet environmental targets without compromising on UL certification or technical performance.
These materials are fully integrated within our UL- and CSA-recognized material portfolio. As with all UL solutions, material selection is determined by the specific application, surface, and operating environment.
For mission-critical applications, additional testing and compliance verifications beyond standard UL requirements may be necessary.
We support and conduct tests aligned with standards such as:
Furthermore, label resistance against abrasion and aggressive chemicals can be validated through documented testing protocols.
Wipe and immersion tests with harsh media such as acetone, isopropanol, or Bacillol can be performed and documented upon request.
Whether technical rating plates, UL compliance markings, cable flags, SmartLabels, PCR recycled labels, or custom-engineered solutions for special applications:
Our engineering team will gladly advise you on the optimal material and printing configuration.

UL Solutions is an independent organization that conducts safety testing and certification worldwide, particularly for products sold in the United States or Canada. The UL marking indicates that a product or component meets specific safety requirements.
UL is one of the world’s most recognized product safety testing laboratories and specifically tests electrical and electronic devices for safety and compliance with standards.
UL operates not only in the USA but also in Canada. UL collaborates with the Canadian authority SCC (Standards Council of Canada) and is recognized as an accredited certification body in Canada.
In Canada, the best-known certification body is the CSA Group (Canadian Standards Association) – a counterpart to UL in the USA.
UL has its own Canadian certification marks and can certify products according to both US standards (UL standards) and Canadian standards (CSA standards or CAN/CSA standards).
The following UL categories are particularly relevant for labels:
UL969 and ANSI/CAN/UL969A Marking and Labeling Systems and CSA C22.2No015 Adhesive Labels

This is used for label materials or systems used in certified end products.
Marking Meaning
UL Solutions conducts regular unannounced audits of manufacturers to ensure ongoing compliance with requirements.
UL 969 ANSI/CAN/UL969A specifies requirements for labels that must remain permanently on products – e.g., nameplates, warnings, or technical data.
Among other things, the following will be tested:
In addition, the Canadian standard CSA C22.2 No.0.15 can be applied.
